Waterway Constructions has performed the wharf maintenance on wharves owned or controlled by the RMS since 1993.

At present the company maintains 74 wharves in Sydney Harbour and Newcastle. Structures include the wharves, promenades and other structures in Circular Quay, 31 other ferry wharves and 30 wharves used by commercial vessels.

Maintenance includes inspections, planning, engineering, routine and preventative maintenance as well as emergency works.

Specifically, the works involve piling, concrete structural steel and timber replacement and repair.

The scope of works includes:

  • Structural replacement and repair of concrete, steel or timber wharf superstructures and substructures
  • Piling repair and replacement
  • Replacement of wharf fittings including wharf , fender, bollards, handrails, ladders and life buoys
  • Electrical, plumbing and other services
  • Painting of piles and wharf structures
  • Wharf cleaning
  • Pump out of pontoons.
