Construction of a 30m long x 23m wide wharf in Darling Harbour, Sydney consisting of a concrete deck supported on steel piles to provide a new terminal for the 16,000t fast ferry travelling from Sydney to Tasmania.
The works included:
- the installation of 700 linear metres of steel tube piles up to 50m deep
- the precasting and installation of 510 square metres of deck structure overlaid by a insitu concrete topping slab
- fabrication and installation of a steel transfer ramp
- fabrication and installation of 2 steel fender structures
The Client required the facility to be designed and built within 16 weeks. Waterway Constructions proposed an innovative precast deck design to achieve the projects fast-track objective. After a 5 week design and development phase, the construction was completed with the facility ready for operation in 11 weeks.
