Station Pier Deck Upgrade

Client: Port of Melbourne Corporation
Capabilities: Construction, Piling, Demolition
Region: Melbourne (Victoria)
Completed: November 2007

The Station Pier Deck upgrade project required demolition and construction of a 96 metre by 12 metre section of the pier's central roadway. The works were located under the TT Line Building where sleeping quarters for the crews from the ''Spirit of Tasmania'' vessels are located. These sleeping quarters are in use during the day light hours in between night sailings of the vessels. The works required careful planning to minimise noise levels.

The works included:

  • Demolition of the existing deck
  • Construction of a new 200mm thick reinforced concrete deck
  • Grit blasting and refurbishment of the shed columns at deck level and below
  • Installation of new steel bracing to piles
  • Repair of timber piles using marine wraps and concrete bags
