Jim Millar | Managing Director

Jim Millar is a qualified chartered civil engineer with some 44 years' experience practising engineering in Australia and internationally. Throughout his career, Jim has specialised in the design and construction of maritime and foundation works. Jim is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia and the Standards Australia Committees for the production of the Australian Piling Code, the Bridge Code and Maritime Structures Code.

Mal Hiley | General Manager

Mal Hiley is a qualified civil engineer who has worked in the design and construction of maritime structures for over 30 years. After working for the NSW Maritime Services Board for over 15 years, Mal was instrumental in the foundation of Waterway Constructions in 1993. Mal has been involved in all aspects of the business and has overseen the significant growth of Waterway Constructions.

Stephen Mitchell | Engineering Manager

Stephen Mitchell is a qualified civil engineer who worked for Transfield and Multiplex Constructions before joining Waterway Constructions. Stephen leads the engineering team in the development of design and construction solutions. Stephen is also responsible for the coordination of our estimating team.

Alan Millar | Senior Engineer

Alan graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours before working with Hyder Consulting in London for a number of years before joining Waterway. Alan is instrumental in developing design solutions and construction methodologies for our project works.

Karl Coleman | Commercial Manager

Karl Coleman trained as a carpenter before progressing into a management role after working for a number of building companies in the Northern Territory and New South Wales. Karl is now an integral part of our estimating team and is also responsible for the maintenance business in NSW.

Geoff Hopkins | Safety and Systems Manager

Geoff Hopkins is a mechanical engineer with over 30 years experience in the construction industry with the expertise, knowledge and oversight to enable the development of a safe working culture and environment across the company. Geoff works with our internal management team together with our external auditors in the maintenance and development of our integrated management system.
Adam Knight | NSW Manager

Adam Knight is highly experienced in the design and construction of maritime structures. After graduating with First Class Honors in 1994, Adam spent 13 years in the consulting engineering industry both in Australia and the UK. Adam joined Waterway Constructions in 2007 as a Senior Project Manager before being appointed NSW Manager where he is responsible for the effective functioning of the state operations and delivery of all projects based in and/or for clients of the state.

Chris Hickey | Senior Project Manager

Chris Hickey holds a Bachelor of Building and worked for Barclay Mowlem Constructions and Transfield before joining Waterway Constructions. Chris is our Senior Project Manager and has been involved in all major projects in recent years including the Sydney Wharf redevelopment, the extension of Berth 103 East, Port Kembla and the BHP in-river sheet pile wall construction in Newcastle.

Aivars Verdins | State Manager

Aivars Verdins is a qualified civil engineer with over 30 years experience in the design, construction and maintenance of maritime projects. Aivars has worked in both the government and private sectors having spent almost 20 years with the Port of Melbourne before managing Skilled Maritime from 1997. Aivars has successfully manage Waterway’s Victorian operations from 2006.

Joe Santilli | Assets Engineer

Joe Santilli is a qualified civil engineer who has over 15 years experience in maritime construction and maintenance works. After working for a number of years with the Port of Melbourne Corporation, Joe worked with Skilled Maritime before joining Waterway Constructions in 2006. Joe is responsible for the maintenance of port assets as part of our term contract with the Port of Melbourne.

Oliver Timms | Project Manager

Oliver Timms is a qualified civil engineer who has 7 years project management experience in maritime projects. Oliver has developed proven expertise in constructing projects that require skills, sensitivity to unique program requirements, and knowledge in all aspects of maritime construction.

Michael de Silva | Engineer

Michael graduated with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 2007 and after working with consultants SKM joined waterway Constructions in 2008. Michael undertakes a range of tasks including estimating, project engineering and project management.

Bryn Griffiths | Project Engineer

Bryn graduated with a double degree in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Business from the Swinburne University of Melbourne in 2004 before working with Theiss Services on a number of water infrastructure projects. Bryn joined Waterway Constructions in 2009 as project engineer on the Melbourne Main Sewer crossing of the Yarra River.

Tony Dunk | Project Manager

Tony Dunk is a qualified civil engineer with 30 years experience in the construction and maintenance of maritime structures. Tony is a Chartered Professional Engineer, a Member of the Institute of Engineers Australia, is a Registered Professional Engineer Qld (RPEQ) and holds a BSA Supervisor License (Medium Rise). Tony has worked in both the government and private sectors having spent over 20 years with the Port of Brisbane where he exercised his experience in dredging, port operations and development as well as associated building construction works.
